When I visited Peru in 1990, I struck up a passing friendship with a fellow Jewish couple that lived in Miraflores. But I lost touch and have been unable to locate Juyita & Israel [protecting privacy of last name]. My hope was that if I came even 28 years later to a local Jewish center in this place of fairly few Jews, I might learn something of their whereabouts—even if perhaps they emigrated, perhaps to Israel or Argentina. When we found the synagogue as per Google maps, there was no marking. The person who answered the intercom-I suppose a guard- insisted very coldly and abruptly that he understood not a word that wasn’t in Spanish (I don’t speak Spanish) and would not even say si or no to whether I had buzzed a synagogue— which I know (sinagoga) to nearly be a Spanish word. I would have hoped for a bit more accessibility and hospitality to traveling Jews. I have had better Jewish hospitality experiences traveling in other countries.

Not a positive experience. While visiting Lima from Toronto I Tried unsuccessfully to visit this synagogue. It Was impossible to have any meaningful discussion with the security guard or with anybody else. Very disappointing.
Thank you!
Interesante para el público general. Realicé una consulta, pero lamentablemente no obtuve ninguna respuesta.
