This place has excellent views and really interesting history. Make sure to bring sunscreen, a hat and comfy shoes because it gets really hot as it is dessert. We did part of the tour with a car, so that saved us a lot of walking. The guide jumped in our car with us and showed us where to stop to go for a walk to see the different areas of the city.

See review for Templo del Sol. Pachacamac is an amazing place close to Lima. This site dates back 200 BC/BCE or over 1000 years before the Incas/Inkas. See the pictures for time line of the three cultures that occupied this site next the Pacific Ocean. I encourage to discover pre-Inka Peru. Also Caral is close to Lima which the oldest city in the Americas -2600 BCE

If you have kids like we do & happen to get a taxi, drive around the ruins & get out to see the bits you want to. Walking can be more arduous that you've ever imagined with kids used to walking, but not familiar with the desert setting. Oh FYI you can't bring bags into the museum, don't leave your water behind ;). Interesting to look at, but be aware most of it isn't accessible to tourists (you just look from a far).

It is a incredible sensation being in a thousand years old historical site.

Really great place to visit for history. You will need to be mobile as lots of walking on tours. Would recommend!!

Legit and modern museum with English explanations and good AC! The surrounding is impressive especially if you never have seen a desert. Ruins in the desert makes you feel like you are in Cairo. A lot of walking since it's quite a large site. You can take the public buses from Miraflores which will drop you in front of the entrance (you need to tell the driver).

Don't join a tour group - just go by yourself. Very important site historically. Very good museum with lots of fabulous pieces on display. Photos allowed without flash... but don't touch the glass! It's 3 miles (5kms) to walk the entire route on good paths which are dusty. You can hire a bicycle to get around the site and some people drive around! Not the most spectacular ruins I've seen, but these are 2200 years old and much is still being excavated. There are a few nice surprises of colour here and there. However it is the best thing I saw/did in Lima and I'm glad I went. There are 2 sets of lovely clean toilets, a cafe and a shop. Instead of joining a tour, I paid 32 soles for an uber from Barranco at 11am, and 35 to return. Entry fee is 15 soles, so even going by myself it was cheaper than joining a tour, and I could take my time. Going after 10am there's much less traffic and uber will be cheaper then too. There are official guides that you can hire on site, but the printed information you're given makes it possible to see without a guide. Round trip, including 2.5 hours at the site and museum, was 4 hours. There is also a bus stop at the site entrance but I don't know the bus timetable.
