This rather formidable sculpture is a feature of Intihuatana Park, or as it is locally known, Parque Intihuatana which is located along the Costa Verde of Lima's affluent and picturesque seaside district of Miraflores. Titled “Intihuatana”, the sculpture was made by the Peruvian visual artist Fernando de Szyszlo and in this works he is paying homage to the culture that worshipped the sun. Intihuatana is the Quecha term for sundial, and the artist was no doubt inspired by intihuatanas in Incan sites, the most famous one being that at the top of Machu Picchu.
