I had one week of group classes and one week of one to one. The classes themselves were great and the teachers very competent and friendly. I would say that the one to one classes were so much better, I wouldn’t go for group classes again, because in a group of six it takes far too long to go round the class for each person to speak, especially with the inevitable mixed abilities you’ll be put with. I found with half the time in a one to one class, I learned much more than in four hour group classes. I would definitely go back to San Blas Spanish School and take more one to one classes next time I’m in Cusco.

Lovely language school in a great location. My partner took intermediate lessons and they were incredibly beneficial. However, I would think twice about taking lessons if you are already relatively fluent as the school didn’t appear to be particularly well equipped to deal with students at this level.

Small, informal and fun Spanish school. Has options for classes for most abilities, but if you know your subjunctive moods from your pluperfects and are looking for advanced tutoring, this may not be quite for you! If you’re a beginner / intermediate looking to learn a bit more during your time in Cusco, however, you’ll enjoy the relaxed and informal atmosphere here. Prices are pretty reasonable, too, at S/ 70 for four hours of tuition.

I had an excellent experience taking private lessons at the San Blas Spanish School. The two best features were the qualified and attentive instructors, and the way they structured the lessons to meet my goals. I took lessons for a total of six weeks, 10-hours per week. Prior to the classes, I had taken Spanish in high school (20 years ago), and I had taken two weeks of private and group Spanish lessons about a year earlier. I remember being confused about conjugation and irregular verbs in the past, but things really came together at San Blas, and I finally felt like I could actually speak Spanish in conversation, rather than feeling like I was always translating my thoughts from English to Spanish. The instructors did a great job of tailoring the lessons to my needs, while also introducing new grammar. Things never felt too fast or too slow. Each week we kept moving forward, covering more advanced grammar, while always spending plenty of time speaking to reinforce what I had learned. One good thing about spending a lot of time speaking is that I learned a lot of the culture of Cusco and Peru in general. Our conversations covered a wide range of topics, from history to politics to philosophy to just modern day life, and differences between North and South America. I was happy to be able to engage in "real" conversations, rather than just doing examples from workbooks. I would definitely recommend the school to anyone. I didn't have a single negative experience, and most importantly, I feel immeasurably more comfortable with the Spanish language than I did when I started.

The small school is located in a great quieter location of San Blas, out of the way of the center of Cusco but still just a walk up to the popular neighborhood with great cafes, restaurants, and a small square all located near the school. The owner was so responsive to any emails and questions I had and was flexible and accommodating to my change of travel and study plans. It is so easy to fit in some Spanish lessons while visiting Cusco or spending time before or after a visit to Machu Picchu. I just had to show up once I arrived and I had one-on-one instruction. I also took advantage of the home-stay arranged ahead of time.

I enjoyed this school for it's friendly environment. I felt like I was welcomed warmly by staff and students as soon as I walked in. My teacher, Gladys, had such a bubbly personality and allowed each lesson to be engaging. I was here for a very short amount of time but my confidence with Spanish did improve. I could have easily spent longer here if I had the time. Also, very organised and prompt admin response. Overall, a great choice if you're considering learning Spanish in Cusco.
