Pre-Colombian temple in Peru. La Huaca Esmeralda is one of the Pre-Colombian ceremonial platforms located around city of Trujillo. The construction is rectangular in shape (65 x 41 m dimensions) and consists of two platforms built one on top of each other. Older part of the monument has Chimu ornaments similar to the ones from Tschudi Palace in Chan Chan - they include geometric and zoomorphic motifs. The site has been discoverd in 1923 and is open to the public. To reach it follow Avenida Mansiche in Trujillo and turn to Calle 2 - the ruins are well visible among the modern houses.

Very pretty but I don't like what's happening around the area. It's in a neighborhood down the street from a mall. When you walk to the top level all you see is buildings and construction. They've done a good job of preserving it but it's surrounded by modern concrete that takes away from the experience.

If you go to chan Chan first your ticket is for 4 sites for I think either 3 or 10 soles. I cant remember. Chan Chan is big but the other 2 including this 1 are pretty small but worth a visit. The other is a museum. See if you can get a cap to take you to all of them for lile 50 soles.

Small site, no guide, no descriptions anywhere. As a part of bigger trip it's worth seeing though.

Small but included in the ticket for all sites in Trujillo. Interesting and fun how they have a couple of dogs of the traditional furless breed. Cool looking dogs.
