Was there in Summer 2012 and it was definitely a life changing experience. The location of the actual space is elusive to me, but this is their office space. The master of ceremonies was none other than Scott Petersen (RIP) and the sessions were always intense for me but uplifting. Did about 11 sessions. There were two shamans and they had wonderful voices to accompany me on my journey. Teddy was a great and welcoming guide, giving us a tour around the place. The cooks and other ladies working there were very friendly, attentive and sweet. Our huts were always clean - with fresh sheets for our beds and delicious meals for the morning. I just love the food there and the huts are surrounded by birds and other wildlife. I will never forget this place for as long as I live. It was definitely a paradise and time seem to stand still.

First ever Ayahuasca experience… researched well best facilities and ended up choosing Refugio based on reviews, their caring site wording, and seeming approach to higher purpose of it all… What an experience! I simply cannot imagine having done this significant, life-changing, transformative undertaking anywhere else. Facility is delightful, rustic and well attended. Staff is lovely, immensely attentive and ever so caring. Owner is a big teddy bear with a huge heart of gold, well plugged in, all about the guests and their experience. And, most importantly, the shamans/ayahuasqueros at Refugio are the most selfless, devoted and wildly gifted healers alive. They are genuinely, deeply and most evidently interested in your truest healing & highest transformation in journey with this plant medicine. You know instantly that you are safe, with experts and in most capable hands. As well, my brother was ill when there, and after holding ceremony for all of us, they (all 3 shamans) came to our hut every night to work on healing him… at 1am! Nothing was too much for these skilled, committed, huge hearted Beings of Love, Light and Ayahuasca. There are just not words adequate enough to describe either their devotion and capability… or our gratitude. If you are considering an Ayahuasca retreat, I highly that you do this at Refugio Altiplano. You will leave a much changed individual... both from your experience with Ayahuasca … and your exposure to the very best part of humanity… Many Blessings!

YOU GUYS. LOOK NO FURTHER. Refugio is the best. Perfect serenity by day and mind-blowing intensity by night. My only wish is that more and more people discover this place and experience its effects. As soon as you arrive you begin to absorb the sacred energy of Refugio and feel the magic of the jungle. They have their 12-day program down to a T and I strongly recommend. By pairing ceremonies back to back you get the maximum benefit of the medicine as it builds from the day before. The staff care deeply about your healing and they take excellent care of you: debriefs the morning after every ceremony, skilled translator and facilitator, fruit and tea delivered to your doorstep bright and early, delicious meals, stocked library. There are small groups of no more than 10 people, so you get a lot of personal attention from the shamans during ceremony (as much as you need). Daniel is a deep surgical healer and Mother Ayahuasca listens to him; I am grateful to be in the Maloka with such a powerful healer. Everything about the setting is conducive to your healing: a safe, secure environment to allow for a transformative inner journey; big rustic houses placed in strategic isolation from each other; welcoming meeting space and dining room for sharing and support. Many people return again and again, including myself — I am spinning on my heel and heading right back. I repeat, look no further than Refugio Altiplano.
