Among dozen or more reviews we left after our recent trip to Lima, of attractions, restaurants, museums, and of the hotel we stayed at (Belmond Miraflores), 99% are 5-star rated. This is the only review that deserved such a low rating. One has to put an unusual effort in Lima, a capital of gastronomy in the South America, to come up with such an unfortunate affair as Restaurant Tragaluz.
The service was strikingly poor. The inept servers would bring dishes we didn't order, would bring a plate and then remove it, realizing it wasn't ours, more often than not looked completely lost, etc. First we were surprised because some of the servers were the same people who served breakfast in the Observatory, at Belmond Park Miraflores, without any issues whatsoever. But then we realized that a breakfast buffet involves basic serving skills only, due to the self-service nature of the place.
The food, despite deceivingly nice menu descriptions, wasn't much better than a chain restaurant would offer, and not a good chain restaurant at that. Bland, mediocre dishes, sloppily prepared and negligently served, there was not one single part of our 3-course meal that reached a bare minimum level of culinary decency.
In a city that prides itself on such distinguished establishments as Central, Maido, Astrid y Gaston, IK, KJolle, etc., we can't possibly find an excuse for a place as Tragaluz. Even more inconceivable is the fact that a great hotel such as Belmond Park Miraflores, which we enjoyed immensely, can afford tarnish its reputation by having Tragaluz as its "house restaurant".
